a qualified technician. In today’s market the hourly pay is a minimum of $15 per hour. Add workman’s comp. insurance, overhead and so-forth the shop is actually paying that person a minimum $45 per hour plus what the owner needs to bring the minimum of $75 per hour labor rate. Second, the quality of the part. Front brake pads in Bendix (a quality after market brand pad) lists for $83.99 with a proper mark up percentage. Which gives a total for an approximate quality brake job a minimum of $160+ which still does not come close to $69.99 brake job ad. Ahhh, perhaps bait and switch or perhaps cheap labor and cheap parts. In either case, how much is it worth for you to stop safely?
After reading all of this there’s no reason why consumers are so afraid of being taken advantage of. One shop gives a honest price to do the job with quality parts and technicians (which the consumer doesn’t know) and another shop will price well below the honest quote. Now the consumer feels they are being taken by a honest shop due to price and again consumers lack of quality automotive repair.
